Small Vessel Cook/Deckhand

Deckhand / Cook
We are looking for eager and self-starting individuals responsible for providing regular meals of an acceptable standard at the designated times while maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene standard in the galley as well as being an active member of the crew on a smaller vessel.
This is a blended role between Cook and Deckhand responsibilities, as such, your role will require you to spend approximately 50-70% of your daily time with galley responsibilities and the remaining time will be allocated to Deck duties, as directed by the Captain.

Key Responsibilities:
- General upkeep and maintenance duties including painting, cleaning, and planned maintenance work
- Support ship-assist, line handling and cargo loading/unloading
- Perform fire and security rounds and maintain gangway watch while in port
- Plan and prepare regular meals at the designated times for a small crew 3-6
- Ensure cleanliness and a high standard of food safety and sanitation throughout the galley, storeroom and freezer
- Responsible for ordering catering supplies within budget
- Supervise the handling of stores received while ensuring a satisfactory standard is supplied
- Adhere to all company health and safety policies and work procedures
- Work with the deck crew as needed
Qualifications:
- Bridge Watch Rating or Ship's Cook certificate issued by Transport Canada preferable but not required
- Valid Marine Medical and Marine Emergency Duties – Basic Safety Training
- Sound knowledge of food handling and preparation
- Experience managing a budget and/or inventory and menu planning
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-starter, analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Team player
